YouTube Release Notes: Updates to Browse page, Video Editor and Video Manager

This week we’re kicking off our recurring Release Notes post for 2012, highlighting some of the most recent updates to YouTube. Our scrappy engineers have been hard at work to make your experience  even better, and here’s what’s new.

New look for Browse

Today we're giving the Browse page a fresh look-and-feel, to help you find even more great Channels on YouTube. Alongside the top lists like Most Viewed Today, you can now discover and subscribe to more YouTube Channels on browse pages, which will then regularly update on your homepage. You can also discover more content under categories including Entertainment, People & Blogs, Science & Technology and more. You’ll find it all on YouTube.com/browse.



Video Editor with new features

We first announced the YouTube Video Editor back in June of 2010 and since then we’ve added dozens of features that we hope you’ve enjoyed. With the recent YouTube homepage update we felt it was time to give the Video Editor a visual overhaul, as well as adding a cool new timeline, easier clip trimming and a moving playhead. Head over to YouTube.com/editor to see the changes. Here’s a shot of what it looks like:



Video Manager with oldies and new goodies

We’ve listened to your feedback from the Video Manager update in December, and have a bunch of new features and improvements. Along with a visual update, the Video Manager includes search history, and an improved display of scheduled uploads and claimed videos. You also wanted us to add back in the likes and dislikes statistics as well as sorting videos by popularity, so those features have returned. This will be rolling out over the next few days, and here’s a screenshot of what it looks like:

  1. It was such a helpful feature to have access to the analytics/stats of the single videos on the Video Manager page. Now it's gone? There is no substitute on the Analytics page ( an overview with all your uploaded vids with a thumbnail, so you can recognize them instantly, where you can access statistics fast). Think of the serious creators with hundrets of vids. I believe they need a Video Manager in which they can access important data with as few click as possible.

Ha, taking back everything: just found out that you implemented this feature. you guys are cool: some "hidden" features in your new design. found out that clicking in the view-count area in the Video Manager leads you to the stats for each video. Delicious. I love it. A big thank you to the designers and engineers!

  2. The video editor would be so helpful if it didn't have the 1000 view limit on it. You could make announcements for live shows (or anything current) at the end of a video and then cut it off when it's out of date. Go on, it'll be great. Pretty please with a cherry on top!

  3. By the way that is not what the new editor looks like. The video I wish to edit is squeezed into the bottom left hand corner and the timeline doesn't shift like it used to, instead it jumps to aver 3 seconds and moves to every 15 seconds. It is also going backwards making it all the more confusing.

    Why is it that Youtube's new changes are always far worse than their previous services!? I have already ranted about the new Channel on the help forum and now the new editor doesn't work - Previously in the video editing options on the gray nudger didn't shift properly as it did under the general video editor where all the videos loaded and one coul select a particular video to edit it. Now that doesn't work either and the timescale either shifts at every fifteen seconds. Also the time is going backwards and becomes very confusing. For God's sake leave it as it was and revert back to the old editor.
