YouTube Release Notes: More ways to communicate

You keep adding and watching more videos, so we’re working to keep adding more ways for you to watch, share and enjoy the channels and videos on YouTube. This week in Release Notes we’ve got a new way to promote your Google+ profile on YouTube, more options in the Annotations Editor, posting to your Channel Feed and more.

Google+ profile on YouTube
Want to share your Google+ profile or Google+ Page on your YouTube channel? We’ve added a feature to let you promote your presence on G+. We’re looking for other ways to bring the benefits of Google+ to your YouTube channel, so as always please give us your feedback!



Post videos/playlists to your own feed
You can now share videos and playlists in your Channel Feed by posting a Channel Bulletin. When you’re on your Feed tab you’ll see a box “Post to Feed,” where you can enter a comment and add a link to share a video or a playlist. When you’ve posted the bulletin, it will show up in your Channel Feed with your comment below the video. Viewers who are subscribed to your channel will be notified when you post to your feed in their homepage feed.



Homepage and Channel Feeds
After experiments and lots of your feedback, we’re releasing an update to how events are displayed in the feed. The update focuses on three main changes: (1) the video title is more prominent for upload and sharing events, (2) aggregated events now feature a “+more” button which will bring more attention to the event than the previously smaller notification and (3) adding videos to a playlist has a new cleaner styling.

Annotations
Customizing your videos is easier with our new annotations features. We’ve been adding more options to the Annotations Editor like a new annotation type, a full color palette and a new timeline. We’ve also added annotation styles, which lets you choose a templated design to apply to your videos. You can quickly pick a design for your annotation and apply it your video. Start using these today in the Editor by clicking the arrow next to any upload in the Video Manager.

  1. ;( I honestly can't believe the small thumbnails on the youtube homepage was by choice its awful D: this isn't facebook or twitter this is a video sharing site! Thumbnails are more important than the title. What next? Getting rid of videos from the site? Come on youtube please stop messing us around.

  2. Please allow us to link to a Facebook PAGE from the large button on our YouTube channel, not just our personal Facebook profile.

    I have watched 95% less videos from my subscriptions ever since the homepage thumbnails got smaller. It gives me a headache! It's VERY HARD to decide what to watch now with these small thumbnails! I can't even see video thumbnails, EVEN when I zoom in 200%! Total loss of views for most content creators. I have already noticed HUGE drops in views from people that usually get a lot, ALL BECAUSE OF THIS DOWNGRADE CHANGE!


    PLEASE bring the big thumbnails back!

    I loved the new homepage -- that was before the thumbnails were downgraded to tiny grains of salt. For partners, the custom thumbnails are EVERYTHING. Nice thumbnails are what DRIVE views. With the small thumbnails -- it is harder to STAND OUT.

    It just KILLS me inside EVERY TIME YouTube tweaks the layout without warning!

    SUGGESTION:

    Have users take a POLL -- The poll has a before and after screenshot

    RESULT: LET THE USERS VOTE FOR WHICH ONE THEY PREFER!
    HOW IS THE NEW LAYOUT BETTER?!?!?!?!?

    This proves my point that the bigger thumbnails were better!

    When the uploader's channel name was displayed at the top with the light gray banner, it was so much easier to read with the larger thumbnails!

  6. I like all of the changes except the thumbnails. When I first saw them I thought my page rendered wrong or that my browser was messing up in some other way, but now it turns out it was intended to be like this.

    I agree with the poll thing; I don't think most other YT'ers like the small thumbnails either. Also, the new white space between the videos just doesn't feel right, and I really, really preferred it the "old-new" way, as shown in the "before" part of the comparison above.

    I still like the other changes, but I really think this one is a mistake.

  7. I don't like the new thumbnails either. And please, bring back that "x" button because I have a mess in my sub-box without a possiblitty of deleting those new videos there.

  10. If you have a YouTube channel, and have uploaded a video or are preparing to upload videos to YouTube, you can make your video interactive by using the "annotations" feature on YouTube.

  14. To bring up this menu, simply hover over an item in the feed and click the arrow that appears in the upper right of the item. You can then choose to hide the item you have selected, opt to only show uploads from that user, or unsubscribe from that user, all directly in your feed. buy facebook fans
