New Upload Page & Metadata Editor for Partners

We want to make uploading and publishing as fast and easy as possible for you.  So, we’ve got a round of updates that will be made available over the next few days that make key parts of the process more efficient: configuring monetization and choosing custom thumbnails on the upload page, and improved metadata editing.

Configure monetization settings:  The new upload interface features a Monetization (or Claiming Options) tab where you can select monetization settings while you upload.  Click the “?” icons to learn more about the different options available.  Basically, more monetizing, less scrolling and clicking.

Custom thumbnail uploads:  Lots of you have been asking  for custom thumbnail uploads directly on the upload page.  If you have this feature, you can now upload a custom thumbnail after the video reaches the processing stage.  This means less waiting, clicking, and general hassle to get your custom thumbnail image ready to go before your video is published.  

Metadata, meta-easy:  The metadata editor you have in the upload process is also available in the Video Manager. To access and edit these settings after your upload is complete, go to the Video Manager and click the Edit icon next to the video.

This will direct you to the new metadata editor page.  Here you can adjust settings you made to your video during the upload process, such as change monetization settings or publish a private video by changing it to public.

  1. the new GUI needs to have custom publishing time before you upload the video, so some additional tweaks. Other than that the custom thumbnail after it just finishes uploading is pretty neat

    2. Only "real" partners have this option. I don't know why YouTube is calling this the Partner program, it doesn't offer anything new to anyone really.

  3. To those wondering -- if you are a partner and want to schedule the video to go public at a later time -- you need to select private, then select your file -- there will be a box you have to check that will say keep private then go live later

  4. Scheduled Publishing is needed for the new uploaded. Otherwise it looks good but I can't use it without the scheduler.

    1. The video explains how to access scheduled publishing. Before you select a file for upload, set the privacy setting to "Private". Then start the upload, and over on the right, in the privacy settings, you should see an extra checkbox that says "Keep private, and then go public later". Activate that, and you'll see the scheduling options appear.

I have almost all my videos monetized, but if I click on the button on the youtube/partners page, I'm being redirected to my Monetization page in my youtube settings and then I see the next line: 'To become a YouTube Partner and access promotional and skill-building opportunities, you must have at least one video approved for monetization.' What now? Can't I become a partner with additional features..?

    3. There are new, and hidden, "levels" to becoming a more feature rich "partner".

      From what I understand.

      Basically, you have to earn new features over time, through some merits of your videos and/or activity.

      No one has that info, public, though. As far as I know.

    4. My theory is that to cut down on everyone applying for Partner, they just decided to say "lol you're all partners now even though you didn't really get anything new trololol. also we have removed the ability to apply to be a "real" partner.

  10. It's honestly embarrassing that the design/engineering team completely forgot to include options for post/mid-roll ad placement.

    I worry about you guys, honestly. This is how we make our living, and you seem to be changing the site every fortnight, at huge losses to your community... and no one seems to care.

    1. I agree completely with Jon, not only becaume I'm a fan; but also because I care about the future of YouTube as well as my future business endeavours with YouTube.

      A lot of things change way too often. In my honest opinion, partners care about youtube because, for the most part, they generate enough income to live off of the site. Use them for beta testing. LISTEN to what they have to say. This will create a better community with HAPPY YouTube partners. Thus creating more revenue for Google/YouTube as well as the partners.

A big issue Im having right now is the fact that getting videos monetized has become harder, I found all of the necessary documentation for my most recent video, and because of the changes in the claims section, I had no clue how to provide that documentation. I've only been using minecraft and music from Kevin MacLeod, who both allow for free use of their content. If anyone could help, that would be greatly appreciated.

    1. I am having the same problems. I get a lot of my music from Kevin Macleod, but his music is not acceptable for monitization. I also have my cousin, Leslie Butler, donate a lot of his music and am having a difficult time having his music accepted. (As is the music of Van Syla at times). I would love to know the solution. PLEASE! I am tired of using the music from the editing software

    2. My original music of any kind gets denied. I have to sumit, get denied then prove myself not a crook. If I upload an old 4 track recording it gets denied. So time consuming. Kinda wish it was not so automated and there was a real person to talk to or online chat with.

    3. I agree with all of this. Why does it have to be so hard?
      I know I am definitely missing out on basically any chance of profits because the new system automatically rejects my videos since they have music I CREATED MYSELF in them. And then, I go to submit documentation, and there isn't even any action after that... and so by that point, the bulk of viewers (and where I'd get any sort of profit from monetization) have already viewed and I have lost my chance at earning the bulk of the profits from that video.

      So far, since the update, not one of my videos has been approved for monetization, even after clicking the submit documentation link that gets emailed to me.

    4. For the Kevin McLeod music you have to give him credit in your description bar. Go to his website, click on license. He explains what you have to do.. Just copy the tekst

  12. What are the new "Artist" pages and how do they work? I can't find anywhere this is clearly explained. I represent musician Allison Crowe - for whom YouTube has just launched an artist page @ Allison Crowe - YouTube So far, this is an auto-generated collection of related videos. The Hollywood Reporter, in this brief item, says these Artist pages are to become hubs for the sale of concert tickets, CDs, music etc.

    How does an Artist "claim" their page - and/or otherwise connect with this content?

    Thanks very much for your time and answers. If there is another thread where this is all explained, and I've missed it, please advise.

  13. Youtube, I monetized 10 videos. It still redirects me to the 'monetization page'. I don't want to monetize any more, because you won't give me anything. Saying it's easy to become a partner is BULL. I applied before april 12th, as in about a month before, and it said 'Now all you gotta do is put in monetization!' I was so excited, I found some videos to monetize, and waited. And waited... and waited some more. No partnership. No banner. No thumbnails. I don't even want money, that's why I never linked an adsense account. I just want my videos and channel to look great, because I take pride in my work. I had pride, and you stomped on it like an empty pop can. You can go to hell.

  14. There is no where to put who the artist is or if your video is your own anymore...

    I was also wondering why my last 2 videos are taking so long to get approved when they are usually approved with minutes?

    Seems like a lot of things changes today.

  16. all in all I like the new upload page. but mine is missing the thumbnail upload button. its a little annoying being a partner and not being able to upload thumbnails.

  18. I have a problem, a friend of mine has become a partner, but his videos have less views than mine, i havent infringed any copyright law or anything but i cant monetize my videos, can someone explain that to me ?

    1. Where do you live? The Monetization option is only available in countrys, where the partnership program is included.

  19. Is there any way to avoid the new uploader updates? I personally dont like the new layout especially the one small tag box and the annoying new way to do scheduled uploading. I also don't like not being able to see my claims options and video details on the same page. And as for the custom thumbnail bug, that still appears for me, even though I haven't personally tried it out since the update...

    Also the new video manager editor is annoying as well. Can you please just leave everything on one page so i don't have to keep on clicking back and forth between the different options.....

  21. I have reached 251 uploaded video and now the system won't allow to upload more, why? Also, I ignore the invitation to monetize my YOUTUBE account, was this reason why I'm having troubles uploading? It seem my account is being hack or discriminated!

  22. youtube i'm not a big money earner, and the $1 value i earned last month I really could live without, but I am getting annoyed (and its the reason I dont really create content anymore and deleted my other videos) that whenever I monetize a video, I get a rejection, then i have to submit the proofs (same ones again) for the video to then have it accepted, its sunday morning here, was having a lazy lie in bed, checked my email, to get abruptly woken up by your snotty stock refusal email with its veiled threats of do this again and we drop you, not good, not good when i check all my videos for infringement over and over before uploading. well its re-uploaded with all visible TM's airbrushed out, all proofs supplied again... more waiting...

    1. Yeah... I think if there is any one place that Youtube will need to overhaul, it should be the monetization process. It lacks standard and it is utterly frustrating.

    I think it'd only be fair if you let more EXPERIENCEd people have the biggest features as a partner(this includes stuff like banners, etc)
    By that I mean people with MORE viewers/subs/etc. should have the ability to access the big features (like you've done with thumbnails..).

  27. lol, our theme song has the name of our channel in it. We made it with a friend. Yet half the vids it won't monetize bc of the song, and the other half it does no problem. How do you submit copyright proof for a song your buddy made you?

  28. YouTube, Google, if you read this, do not ignore it because it came from one person, read it because it speaks for many.
    From reading all of these comments YouTube and Google are a shambolic company, they're so bloated with money they really don't care if someone has a problem, I was surprised when there was no way to email for support, never mind live chat help, but the fact all these problems exist and, let's be honest, there's no way to get their attention about them, is despicable. We are literally like their employers, but because we live somewhere else and work from home they don't give a damn. After applying last October and finally getting an answer at the start of April, I was happy, but disappointed they were making it so easy to become a partner. Now I hear I'm not really a partner really angers me, as every single one of our uploads we make ALL the music and graphics and edit our videos to a high standard. I have never been rejected monetisation on one of my videos. But I'm willing to bet even though I am supposedly a "partner" it will be 5 or so months before they get round to clicking the tick box that allows me those features I would really love to have. If only they understood they could be making so much more money if they kept their creators happy, they might actually do something important instead of redesigning an upload page, which is just some javascript for the tabs and a bit of CSS, which would take 1 of their team about 2 hours... And still they don't get it right.

  35. What gets me crazy is when they say rumblefish owns my music. I used rumblefish to protect me from others using mu music, not to protect me from myself. I can have rumnlefish release my music by contacting them and giving them the url limk to my video, but I wish I could just give them my irsc like I did a month ago. And why is it that all my music gets disabled from monetization, even the stuff not published through a third party like rumblefish? Why cant I have the option to say 'hey this is my original song?

  36. why uploading takes a long time ,so I can prepare dinner during uploading ...once was very fast but just once ,now every video of 7-8 minutes needs more than one hour for uploading,sometimes more ,anyway as it have to be processing time don't worry I'm fully satisfied with you tube menu ...thanks

  50. you can only become a "real" partner nowdays by applying to one of the companies such as machinima, tgn, fullscreen, vevo etc. Im became a full partner a week ago via fullscreen and I have a banner and scheduled uploads and can add add customised thumbnail already while uploading in bulk. fullscreen.net provides its own interface where I can do some useful stuff such as bulk annotations and it has a very good free-audio base of effects and soundtracks that you can use for free in your videos. on the other hand, i have another account, that i have set up for the "normal" partnership. which is just the same as not being a partner, with the only difference that you can upload thumbnails once video has finished processing and you can set up ads to display on your videos and get some cash from that into your adsense account. of course there is no such thing as banner then, either.
