Video Editing presents: Audio Editing

Your video’s soundtrack can be just as important as its visuals. Let’s face it: as cute as your kitten’s antics are, as amazing as your Little Leaguer’s home run, as radical as your buddy’s skateboard stunts, the ambient sounds captured with many videos leave something to be desired.

We introduced AudioSwap to let you replace a video’s soundtrack for free with a song from our library of thousands of tracks. With more of you using AudioSwap and giving us lots of feedback, we have some cool improvements to share today in YouTube Audio Editing:

  • You asked for more tracks, and our library of songs now includes more than 150,000 tracks--and growing!
  • You can now mix music into your video’s soundtrack at levels ranging from “soft background” to “completely replace.”
  • Our “featured tracks” make it easy to find the best songs across genres for a variety of moods.
  • We’ve revamped the Audio Editing user interface to make it easier to use.  Here’s a look:


These improvements will be available over the next day to all creators around the world. To try it out, go to Video Manager > Edit > Enhancements > Audio. Here’s a little video demonstration:



These are only the first in a series of exciting improvements we have planned for Audio Editing. Stay tuned for more updates (and tunes!), and in the meantime use some music to start turning your videos into YouTube gold!

    1. Hello, I was wondering the same, but for normal partners, and was also curious as how to become a Premier partner. Thanks in advance for any responses to my questions :)

    2. I don't know how you become a Premier Partner - I think YouTube hand pick them based on performance. We became a Premier Partner in the very early days through a bizarre set of circumstances!!!!

      Get your subscribers, traffic and most importantly comments going up and they will start to take note - also apply for any Next Up etc competitions to get onto their radar.

      I also wonder how the ruling in Germany will affect this, or is it the cause of this new development?

    3. As far as I know if you don't own the copyright or license etc. for the music you can't monetize your video.

  2. So, there is still no option to kill the original audio completely from the video? I mean why not? I have had videos blocked because of music playing in the background. I had rather remove the audio and keep the video itself!

  31. So i created a video using my own content. I chose from one of the youtube-ok for ads songs. Then I notice ads on my video from youtube. But they did not mention that they were going to place those ads on it. So if my video goes viral lol..yeah right..lol...but if that happens...and i get 100,000 hits on it. Can I place ads on the video or am i stuck with whoever receiving the money for the ads. They should post in the ok to place ads section, its ok for us to post ads...not you lol.

  34. Utterly bloody useless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Here's my problem:



    i created a series of videos - ALOT of videos - arranged into 4 chapters.

    For the first two chapters, i used a small drum-loop clip for the 20 second intro.

    After uploading, youtube flagged the video some time later saying copyright was taken on the drum-loop used on the start of chapter 1 & 2

    oddly youtube claims the short drum-loop is owned by TWO completely different owners. One video says it is owned by one owner, the second video says it is owned by a different owner - the same drum-loop that is.


    anyway, i made my own drumloop and used that for chapters 3 & 4 intro - ok it's not ideal but what can i do? at the point this happened, youtube had no audio-replace facility. So because the two intro chapter videos both had views, i am forced to leave them as they are, and thus I have 2 chapters (1 & 2) starting with one drum-loop - and the second 2 chapters starting with a different drum-loop.


    Then a year later i go to monetise the videos - they have good views counts now.



    ON NO!! WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!

    I can't monetise chapter 1 & 2 intro videos (part 1 of each chapter) because of the short 20-second drum loop being copyright disputed.

    BUT....... I cannot change the short intro audio for my own drum-loop to match the chapter 3 & 4 videos


    Now TECHNICALLY youtube CAN make this happen - But they choose NOT TO ALLOW YOU TO ADD YOUR OWN AUDIO CLIPS! - YOU ARE FORCED TO USE THEIR SELECTION!

    NOT GOOD. IT MEANS MY CHAPTERS HAVE NO CONSISTANCY.

    All i can do is delete the 2 opening chapter videos and then re-upload with the new 20 second drum-loop at the start, but then I am loosing tens of thousands of views on those two videos.

    shame. why the hell cant youtube allow you to copy from one video to another or upload an audio clip and use that? especially for partners

    I mean what is some big TV channel with an account changes their intro music - they cant change it on their videos? I bet they would be allowed to!

  41. The process of professional audio editing is dynamic and detailed. The sound editor has to make sure the voice does not sound jerky or unnatural. The flow of the voice has to be maintained throughout the file. We make sure all unwanted errors and repetition are removed to maintain the natural aesthetics of the voice.
