YouTube NextUp: Get Collaborating

 Alright stop, collaborate and listen.

YouTube has seen some pretty amazing collabs in its time. From exploring the possibility of a hollow earth to raging office warfare, you guys love to partner up and get creative. Collaboration, along with developing your audience and learning production best practices, has helped previous YouTube NextUp program alumni such as FinalCutKing, chescaleigh, TheCraftyGemini, and RatedRR take their channels to the next level.

Since the launch of the first YouTube NextUp program, a competition that we ran to help creators succeed back in 2011, we’ve helped turbocharge the careers of over 215 YouTube creators in 15 different countries. Today we’re re-launching YouTube NextUp for video creators in the United States: we’re looking for passionate, motivated YouTube creators who want to collaborate. To enter? Find another creator you’d like to partner with, and tell us what you’d like to film together.

If you’re selected as one of the top 30 channels, you will receive:

  • $3,000 to help you make your video dreams a reality
  • $4,000 of production equipment to up-level your skills
  • Two one week-long Creator Camps at the brand-new YouTube Space LA in January and March 2013 to film your collaboration and to learn some more tips and tricks of the trade.

You can apply through our program site: applications are due December 27, 2012.

  1. Ye another contest with even higher barriers to entry than the previous version. It seems like every time YT comes out with a new NextUp (or Next Chef, or Next Vlogger, etc) the level you have to be at ALREADY just to ENTER are higher.

    Next vlogger had the barrier set at 5K subs or 1 million total views, this time it's 10K or 1.5 mil. As a guy who has put it TONS of work into a channel and built it to 3K subs and just under 1 million views lifetime I find that once you've reached the levels that keep being set by these programs you've ALREADY made it. More investment into the up-and-coming producers needs to happen, or at least leave the barriers at the same level from contest to contest so we can STRIVE for a goal when the next one comes around. If you keep moving the finish line farther away it's going to be impossible for me to ever get into these programs.

    1. I couldn't agree more.

      I understand YT's mentality, invest in something or someone who's already risen above the pack. This should generate a better return on investment. That said, there are many creators out there producing fantastic, engaging content who are simply having a tough time getting noticed.

      Metrics are an effective way to evaluate server performance, but lack the finesse to measure creativity.

  4. How can someone get signed up for the YouTube NextUp competition. I created a YouTube Channel almost two years ago and I have had right at 275,000 views and have not been active on this Channel, but I am looking to share the benefits of the YouTube Channels to the Automotive World. I had at one time 7 top ten videos on Sonatas and have sent thousands of emails with my Channel address on it as well as put my Channel on my business cards etc. I have many ideas of how the Channel will be best utilized in car dealerships, but the funding has been my major hurdle. I think as great as YouTube has already proven itself to be there is a huge growth potential just from the business field I am in and the total lack of attention paid to the enormous opportunity that YouTube creates for both individuals and companies. I would love nothing more than to be a HUGE PART of the NextUp campaign and will prove myself to be a worthy ally. Thanks and please let me know what I need to do. I have put my heart soul and mind into being the best I can be through the YouTube tool and other tools I am constantly learning how to benefit from.
